In a world of increasing opportunities, how do you decide what to focus on? What to say yes to, and what to ignore?
Today, I want to share two powerful strategies I personally use to navigate this complexity and keep focused on what matters most: a Massive Transformative Purpose (MTP) and a long-term perspective.
Your MTP: The Ultimate Decision-Making Filter
Let me start by sharing my own MTP: “To inspire and guide entrepreneurs to create a hopeful, compelling and abundant future for humanity.”
This isn't just a fancy mission statement. It's my daily decision-making filter. This MTP birthed XPRIZE, Singularity University, my venture funds, my companies, and my books. More importantly, it helps me say "no" to opportunities that don't align with this purpose.
When I’m on stage inspiring and guiding, I’m at my best, happiest and in flow.
Here's how it works: when evaluating any new opportunity, I ask one simple question: "Will this help me fulfill my MTP?"
In the near future, I’ll be sharing more on how to create your own MTP. But for the moment, know that it’s all about who you want to serve, what gives you energy, and what is a big enough vision to engage you for the decades ahead!
How a 25-Year Commitment Changed Everything
Here’s another question for you...
What are you willing to dedicate the next 25 years to?
Seriously, that’s a tough question for everyone. Dedicating four years, maybe a decade is possible... but a quarter of a century?
Your scarcity mindset answers: "I can't think about the future—I'm too busy surviving today."
You prioritize safety over possibility.
But with an Abundance Mindset you think in decades, and you see "the future as better than you can possibly imagine.”
Let me share a personal story about the power of long-term thinking…
In 2013, I was at Joe Polish's Genius Network, preparing to launch Abundance360. My coach, Dan Sullivan, pulled me aside with a challenge:
"Peter, if you really want to make Abundance360 stick, why don't you tell the entrepreneurs you'll run this for the next 25 years?"
It was one of those moments when everything clicks.
I made that 25-year commitment publicly—to run Abundance360 from 2013 to 2038, guiding members through to what Ray Kurzweil calls the "Singularity." Think about that: a world of superhuman AI, quantum computing, brain-computer interfaces, and age reversal.
This long-term commitment transformed Abundance360 into a central organizing principle in my life. It helps me fulfill my MTP as I spend each year preparing to help members answer three crucial questions:
1. What technologies are going from deceptive to disruptive?
2. How will these technologies transform your business?
3. What's your Massive Transformative Purpose & Moonshot?
In my next email, I'll share insights from other entrepreneurs, business leaders, and thinkers who guide me through these exponential times—wisdom that helps me maintain focus as we create a future of increasing abundance.
Remember: in a world of overwhelming complexity, clarity of purpose combined with long-term thinking is your secret weapon.
Abundantly yours,
Peter
P.S. Your MTP isn't just a statement—it's your filter for saying "no" to the good so you can say "yes" to the great. What will yours be?
